Imagine a small sentence is like a small detail, and a big sentence is like a big story. In a compound-complex sentence, we combine two small details, two small sentences. We use "connective words" to join these sentences, like "and", "but", "while", etc. Now we can create a bigger sentence by combining both "connective words" and "connected sentences".
For example, "Ram goes to school" and "Shyam goes home" are two separate details, but "Ram goes to school, while Shyam goes home" is a bigger detail, where the two small sentences are joined by "while".
